Can brain be effected in advanced polymyositis? - polymyositis

If so, how?

"Polymyositis" simply means many (poly) muscle (myös) inflammation (ITIS).

There is no universal agreement on the etiology, but some viral infections (eg, HTLV) or autoimmune syndromes are the main suspects.

Many viral infections and autoimmune diseases can cause encephalitis, cerebral edema and / or cognitive disabilities.

So, in theory, a condition that causes polymyositis may also lead to intracranial pathology as well. I have not read or seen cases that this will happen, so I guess it's rare.; December 16, 2009 at 1:00 AM
